Even though I'm a biologist, even though I know that natural selection makes populations and species more fit, and even though I know of several hungry snakes, even though I have better things to do; I saved the baby squirrel.

A baby squirrel that had most of its hair but still had its eyes closed fell onto my driveway. Probably not critically injured. It's been in intensive care for the last 2 hours. I made a nest of dryer lint in a luch box heated by microwaveable heating pads. The squirrel has accepted infant electrolyte solution and baby formula, sugar, and crisco mix through a baby medicine syringe. So far its vitals--temperature and breathing rate--are holding at

If it survives, maybe we'll have a tame squirrel for a pet.
